background.

Growing up in a small, sea-side town close to Padstow on the North Cornwall coastline, I was fortunate to develop a deep appreciation for nature and the ocean at a young age.

I spent most of my evenings in the water, adventuring around the clifftops and chasing spectacular sunsets... It was this place that inspired everything.

Studying photography at Truro College, I trained as a landscape photographer and developed my personal style experimenting with long exposures… A great excuse to spend my time outdoors and, then in sharing my photos, an opportunity to inspire others too.

I left college with 3x Distinction* on my diploma, and my ambition turned to travelling and seeing the world… Taking my camera along for the journey! From Vietnam and Cambodia, to the Philippines, Indonesia and New Zealand, my love for adventure grew and grew. I shared my photos and stories online, which lead me into the world of blogging and content creation, creating a blog dedicated to promoting eco-travel and sustainable living.

Settling back home in Cornwall for a short stint, I started working for my sister’s organisation, Beach Guardian, who engage, educate and empower against plastic pollution with school workshops and community beach cleans. Helping with their social media and marketing , I was quickly taking my video production skills to the next level…

THE POWER OF FILM.

I have always had a love for film… The worlds, the stories, the scores… The Iron Giant, Toy Story, Star Wars…

More and more, I started to find myself feeling impacted and inspired by real stories about real people… Documentaries about the issues the world is facing, stories about the challenges people can overcome, and videos shared online about the magic in everyday moments and our actions both big and small.

By the time I watched ‘I Am Greta’ at the cinema, I knew that I wanted to take my filmmaking to the next level and make films that leave a lasting impact on people… documentary films that not only educate, but inspire and empower too.

Photo TO FILM.

Through my twenties, I worked as a freelance photographer for all sorts of organisations and people… Photographing anything from products to bands and musicians, as well as selling landscape photo prints at craft markets in shops and online.

Working with video comes as a necessity for photographers in this day and age, so the transition happened almost quite naturally.

I worked with Age UK, Cornwall Council, and the Sea Cadets. Then, a film and photo commission from Greenpeace proved to be a decisive moment, leading me to study filmmaking traditionally at the University of the West of England in Bristol, to develop technical skills and to soak up all I could about the industry.

During this time, I was fortunate to work with some really talented people and on some really fantastic films. The short documentary I worked on in my second year of studies, Forgotten Fibre, went on to win awards across the country at different film festivals, and was shown around the world.

Alongside my studies, I shot, edited and premiered my feature-length documentary project, The Tales Of Cetus, which follows both artist and environmentalist in their fight against plastic pollution.

Through this time, I grew not only as a filmmaker, but as a storyteller too. It encouraged me to push myself creatively as well as technically, and even introduced me to working with 16mm film which is now a keen interest I look to continue working with.

Now, since graduating from University, I have based myself back home in Cornwall, looking to create inspiring and empowering pieces of work in and around the place that has inspired me so much.
